A ceiling plaster collapsed in a four-storey building in Thane city, Maharashtra, officials informed on Tuesday. Heavily pounded by rains recently, Thane is dealing with deteriorating infrastructure, bringing attention to aging buildings.
The incident, which took place at the Hina Lakshmi Society around 3:20 AM, fortunately, resulted in no injuries. Disaster management teams dispatched quickly, ensuring residents' safety. Although two men and a woman were present in the house, they were unharmed as the plaster fell in a separate room.
The bedchamber, now sealed for safety concerns, highlights the dire need for structural maintenance, as noted by Yasin Tadvi, the city's disaster management cell chief. The building, accommodating 24 flats and housing 70-80 people, last underwent repair nearly a decade ago.
