Salt Lands Cleared for Key Maharashtra Road Project

The Union government has approved the transfer of 53 acres of salt land in Thane, Maharashtra, for a road connecting Dahisar and Vasai Creek. The project, carried out in two phases, is part of an initiative allowing private participation in land transfer if CPSEs or states show no interest.

The Union government has given the green light for transferring 53 acres of salt land in Thane district, Maharashtra. This decision, announced by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, is aimed at facilitating a significant road connection between Dahisar and Vasai Creek.

The project is divided into two phases: the Dahisar to Bhayander coastal road and the Bhayander to Vasai creek section. This development comes after last year's policy modification that allows government-owned salt lands to be auctioned online, permitting private sector bids if Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) or state governments opt-out.

Nationally, the plan could affect nearly 60,000 acres of salt land spread across Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Gujarat, and Karnataka, representing potential new avenues for infrastructure development.
