Relentless rainfall continues to impact Tamil Nadu, causing a significant rise in water levels at key reservoirs. In Chennai, overnight downpours led to fallen tree branches, as the Mettur Dam, the state's largest reservoir, reached its Full Reservoir Level (FRL).
In response to the widespread showers, administration in several districts declared a holiday for schools and colleges. The coastal districts, particularly Chennai, have experienced intermittent heavy rains. Chief Minister M K Stalin advised officials to stay vigilant and active on the ground for rescue and relief operations.
Heavy rains have been especially severe in districts like Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, and others. Amidst a red alert issued by the IMD due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, emergency teams in Chennai are on standby with equipment ready to manage flood risks.
