The Delhi government has taken a significant step towards reducing pollution in the Yamuna River by deploying an advanced water master machine in the Najafgarh drain, officials confirmed on Friday.

This initiative addresses the alarming statistic that approximately 70% of the Yamuna's pollution originates from the Najafgarh drain, largely due to untreated sewage water. The Amphibian Multipurpose Dredger, hailed as one of the world's best, was launched by Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma at Dulsiras village.

Boasting a remarkable capacity to remove 600 cubic meters of silt per hour, this Finnish-designed machine operates efficiently from dry land to depths of six meters underwater. Its versatility in dredging, raking, piling, and aquatic weed clearance makes it ideal for tackling the intricate Najafgarh drain system, thus preventing untreated sludge and waste from contaminating the Yamuna.
