A catastrophic fire at Karachi's Gul Plaza has resulted in 15 confirmed fatalities, while around 65 individuals remain unaccounted for, officials reported on Monday. The blaze, which erupted late on Saturday, ravaged the shopping mall, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, addressing the media, expressed his deep concern over the loss of lives. "There has been a considerable loss of lives in this incident," he stated, acknowledging that the final death count could be higher as rescue operations continue.
Rescue operations were hampered by the structural instability caused by the fire, with sections of the building already collapsed. Authorities are urgently searching for survivors amid fears of more structural failures, as highlighted by Rescue 1122 COO Abid Jalal.
