The contamination of water in Indore's Bhagirath Pura has caught the Centre's attention, prompting initiatives involving financial and technical support through schemes like AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0. Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, revealed the details while addressing the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The minister noted that the region's water supply infrastructure, dating back to 1997, is undergoing a significant upgrade.

Indore has unfortunately witnessed a spate of diarrhoea and vomiting-related deaths since last December due to the contaminated water. In response, the Indore Municipal Corporation has embarked on several projects, part of which include the execution of water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0. These encompass comprehensive system enhancements and ongoing maintenance efforts aimed at ensuring a safe and reliable water supply across the urban area.

The Union government, acknowledging water as a state issue, supports local efforts by issuing advisories and offering infrastructure funds. The state government, on its part, has proactively detected and repaired thousands of leakages. Moreover, the government has intensified water quality checks and enacted measures to close polluted sources. All these efforts are geared towards crafting sustainable water solutions for the city's residents.
