Tech Triumph: AI and Drones to Combat Odisha's Forest Fires

The Odisha Forest Department is leveraging AI and drone technology to tackle increasing forest fires. Advanced surveillance tools, combined with extensive training and local community engagement, aim to detect and manage fires early. New strategic plans promise stronger fire prevention and protection of forest-dependent livelihoods.

In light of increasing forest fires each summer, the Odisha Forest Department is turning to artificial intelligence and drone cameras for early detection and management.

The state’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, K Murugesan, announced these technological enhancements, emphasizing the importance of rapid intervention and local collaboration.

Along with deploying 334 special protection teams and conducting over 631 training programs, the department is involving local communities to fortify efforts against the rising threat to both forests and livelihoods.
