UN Climate Summits: Striving for Greater Impact Amidst Shortcomings

The outcomes of recent United Nations COP climate summits have fallen short of expectations for addressing climate change, according to EU climate commissioner Wopke Hoekstra. Speaking at an event hosted by Politico in Brussels, Hoekstra emphasized the need for more ambitious action to tackle global warming.

Hoekstra remarked that past COP summits over the last several years have not delivered the solutions needed to match the scale of the climate crisis. He described these outcomes as 'underwhelming' in relation to the actual requirements of the situation.

He stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue and decision-making process at COP summits, where nearly 200 nations reach consensus. Additionally, Hoekstra advocated for smaller groups of willing countries to take accelerated action against climate change.
