It is summer season. Google celebrates the start of summer with a mesmerizing doodle. The biggest search engine dedicates its doodle to mark the start of summer and the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Referred to as the summer season solstice, the day receives the maximum hours of daylight.

For the people living in the Southern Hemisphere, Google dedicates another beautiful doodle to mark the winter solstice. This marks the shortest day of the year. Length of day increases from the equator towards the North Pole in the Northern Hemisphere in June (around the summer solstice there), but decreases towards the South Pole in the Southern Hemisphere at the time of the southern winter solstice. The day, June 21 coincides with the World Music Day and International Day of Yoga.

Since the summer solstice takes place during summer in the month of June in the Northern Hemisphere, this is also called June solstice. On the other hand, due to the timing of winter solstice in December, it is also called December solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. The date for winter solstice usually falls between December 20 and 23 every year.
