Pacer Pat Cummins has secured a four-year contract with the San Francisco Unicorns, becoming the latest Australian cricketer to join USA's Major League Cricket.

The second season of the USA franchise T20 league, which has earned List A status from the International Cricket Council (ICC), is scheduled to be held from July 6 to 29, 2023.

''MLC is developing at a rapid rate, and the US market potential is huge for cricket," Cummins remarked in a video post on the franchise's social media handle.

The Australian Test and ODI captain has previously played in only one overseas league—the IPL—and hasn't participated in Australia's Big Bash League since the 2018-19 season.

''While cricket is integral to my involvement, the global network and long-term possibilities offered by the owners, especially in Silicon Valley, presented a unique opportunity for me beyond cricket.''

Australia is scheduled to tour the West Indies for a full series in June-July 2023, raising questions about Cummins' availability for the T20 league.

Joining Cummins at the franchise will be explosive Aussie batter Jake Fraser McGurk.

Additionally, Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head, and Steve Smith have signed deals with Washington Freedom, which has also enlisted New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra.

Other notable signings for the MLC include Shakib Al Hasan and David Miller (Los Angeles Knight Riders), Anrich Nortje and Romario Shepherd (MI New York), Aiden Markram and Daryl Mitchell (Texas Super Kings), and Nandre Burger and Obed McCoy (Seattle Orcas).
