In a triumphant return to the spotlight, the Indian hockey team clinched their second consecutive Olympic bronze medal, this time in Paris. The team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Spain, led by the inspirational Harmanpreet Singh and the unwavering defense of retiring goalkeeper P R Sreejesh.
Harmanpreet was the hero of the match, converting two crucial penalty corners in the 30th and 33rd minutes. Spain initially took the lead through a penalty stroke by skipper Marc Miralles in the 18th minute, but India rallied back with determination.
India, which had ended a 41-year medal drought by claiming bronze in Tokyo, reinforced their standing by fulfilling expectations once again. This achievement not only secured a fitting farewell for Sreejesh, who ends his illustrious 18-year career, but also marked the first back-to-back Olympic medals for India since 1968 and 1972.
