Premier League side Ipswich Town has announced the signing of midfielder Kalvin Philips from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal. At 28, Philips had struggled to cement his place within the Manchester City squad and spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at West Ham United.
Joining Ipswich Town immediately, Philips is set to contend for their Premier League season opener against Liverpool this Saturday. Before his Manchester City tenure, Philips was a fixture in Leeds United’s lineup, amassing 234 appearances and securing the Championship title in 2020. Additionally, he has earned 31 caps for the England national team.
In a statement released by the club, Philips expressed his enthusiasm, saying, 'This is a day I've been waiting a number of weeks for now and I'm very happy to be here. I've had some great conversations with players I know here and also with the Manager, who I have heard a lot about, and I'm excited to be part of his team playing how he likes to play the game.' He continued, 'The conversations with Kieran McKenna and Mark Ashton have been really good and I followed Ipswich’s season closely last year. I want to play as many games as possible, enjoy football again, and help the team win as many games as possible in the Premier League.'
Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna expressed his delight at the acquisition, stating, 'We are very happy to have Kalvin here; he is a fantastic signing for the club. Kalvin is a high-calibre, experienced midfielder who has played at the top levels in both club and international football. He’s had a fantastic career so far and will be a valuable addition to our group.'
