Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his warm wishes to the Indian contingent heading to the Paris Paralympics, set to start on August 28 and end on September 8. A record 84 athletes will represent India in the French capital.
During a virtual session, Modi spoke to first-time participants and previous winners, stressing the significance of their journeys for the nation. 'Our country's pride will be tied to your achievements,' he said, adding that 140 crore Indians are rooting for them.
He interacted with several athletes, including youngest participant Sheetal Devi, rifle shooter Avani Lekhara, high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu, and many others, urging them to give their best. Modi also highlighted the benefits of the Khelo India initiative and a special recovery center built for Indian athletes in Paris.
