Sarbananda Sonowal Elected Unopposed as President of Assam Olympic Association
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was elected unopposed as the president of the Assam Olympic Association. BJP leader Lakhya Konwar secured the general secretary position, and new vice presidents and a new treasurer were also elected. Several ruling party MLAs withdrew their nominations following a suggestion from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

In a significant development, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was elected unopposed as the president of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA) on Sunday.
BJP leader Lakhya Konwar emerged victorious as the general secretary during the AOA's annual general meeting. The elections saw multiple individuals, including Murali Dhar Chowdhury and Kabiranjan Brahma, being chosen as vice presidents.
Additionally, Ashok Kumar Bharali was named the new treasurer, after several ruling party MLAs withdrew their nominations at the behest of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who advocated for the inclusion of sportspersons over politicians in the sports body.
