Top seeds Laxmi Dandu and Dheeraj KS progressed to the finals of the qualifiers in the 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship held at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on Sunday. Laxmi, representing Telangana, dominated her second-round match in the women's singles category, cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Gujarat's Mahi Trivedi after receiving a bye in the first round. She is set to face Tamil Nadu's Vitula Velumani for a spot in the main draw.
Dheeraj KS of Tamil Nadu maintained his winning streak in the tournament, advancing to the finals after a nail-biting three-set win over Maharashtra's Pranav Korade with scores of 6-3, 3-6, [10-8]. Dheeraj quickly took the lead but faced a strong comeback from Pranav, eventually securing his victory in the tiebreak. He will compete against Yash Yadav from Madhya Pradesh in the finals.
The tournament has a history of hosting India's top tennis talents, including Rohan Bopanna, Somdev Devvarman, Yuki Bhambri, Sania Mirza, and Rutuja Bhosale. In the boys' U-18 category, Delhi's Ojas Mehlawat swept aside Parag Jain 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to secure his place in the finals against Vaibhav Kr Charotia of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, Haryana's Dhatri Dave and Gujarat's Pal Upadhyay both qualified for the main draw in the girls' U-18 category after hard-fought victories. This year's championship includes a prize pool over Rs 21.55 Lakh, with additional funds and scholarships available for junior categories.
