Mikaela Shiffrin Eyes Record 16th Alpine Skiing Championship Medal
Mikaela Shiffrin aims for a historic 16th medal at the Alpine Skiing World Championships. Already having won 15 medals, her pursuit continues in the women's slalom, following her previous victories, including four consecutive golds. Switzerland's Camille Rast currently leads, with Shiffrin in contention after the first run.

American skier Mikaela Shiffrin is on the brink of making history at the Alpine Skiing World Championships as she chases a 16th medal. Shiffrin, who matched her record 15th medal in the team combined event, positioned herself third in the initial run of the women's slalom, led by Switzerland's Camille Rast.
In her illustrious career, Shiffrin has never missed a podium finish in her previous six World Championship slaloms, securing four consecutive golds from 2013 to 2019, silver in 2023, and bronze in 2021. Her quest is to match German skier Christl Cranz's 15 individual medals won between 1934 and 1939, during an era when championships were held annually.
Shiffrin, despite a challenging hill and competitive field, expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating it was some of her best skiing to date. Her journey includes overcoming a previous injury from a crash in Killington, Vermont, while striving for her 100th World Cup victory.
