She defended her treatment and blamed a private medical company for care deficiencies. The case seeks to determine if charges of manslaughter are valid, potentially leading to 25-year sentences.
In a high-profile trial concerning the death of soccer legend Diego Maradona, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov testified on Thursday, defending her actions and attributing shortcomings in care to a private medical company. Cosachov is one of seven healthcare workers accused of negligence in Maradona's care.
Maradona had undergone surgery for a hematoma and was under intensive care before being moved to a private home, where he passed away on November 25, 2020. Cosachov, visible emotional during her testimony, maintained that she acted in the best interest of Maradona, stressing consensus on home hospitalization was reached with the family.
The trial, held in San Isidro, Buenos Aires, seeks to determine if the accused are guilty of manslaughter. If convicted, the penalty could be up to 25 years in prison. Prosecution argues inadequate medical care led to Maradona's untimely death, while the defense disputes this narrative.
