High Stakes and Political Drama: BFI Election Showdown
The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) will hold its long-delayed elections on August 21 in Delhi. Internal conflict and legal hurdles have delayed the process, originally scheduled for March. The elections, managed by an Interim Committee, follow disputes over representation, most notably involving former Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is set to conduct its long-postponed elections on August 21 in Delhi, according to an announcement by the Interim Committee. In a move designed to resolve extended organizational tensions, the meeting will discuss past minutes and hold elections for the 2025-2029 term.
The elections, initially planned for March 28, were postponed due to ongoing legal disputes and factional discord within the BFI. The atmosphere souring further, former Delhi High Court judge RK Gauba stepped down as Returning Officer citing a harmful smear campaign against him.
This August, the election process will begin anew under the oversight of the Interim Committee, formed by World Boxing. A new Returning Officer is expected to be appointed, while candidates are being encouraged to confirm their participation and state representatives to finalize their nominations.
