Trailblazing Indian footballer Manisha Kalyan has expressed her ambitions of playing in the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics, dreams fueled by the national team's successful qualification for the AFC Women's Asian Cup in Australia next year.
She was the focal point at the ASMITA under-13 league for girls at Nehru Stadium on Friday, where she underscored the significance of platforms like ASMITA in realising young girls' football aspirations. Kalyan, the only Indian female footballer to have participated in the UEFA Champions League, told the eight teams in the Guwahati leg of ASMITA that quality matches contribute immensely to player development.
Accompanied by emerging talents Rekha Kataki and Dosomi Rowtia, Kalyan praised the dedication of players from the North-East, noting the region's contribution to the national team. With the sports ministry focusing on North-East, initiatives like the upcoming NorthEast-specific Games in the Khelo India calendar will enhance exposure for local athletes, a move Manisha wholeheartedly supports.
