In a strategic move ahead of the US Open 2025, Coco Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion and currently ranked world No. 3, has parted ways with her coach Matt Daly. Daly, an expert in grip, was replaced by biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMilan, who previously improved world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka's serve.

MacMilan was seen training with Gauff in New York on August 20, though Gauff has yet to comment on the coaching change. Her long-time coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel, remains part of her team. The coaching shift comes as Gauff struggles with double faults, particularly noticeable during her recent performance at the Cincinnati Open.

In Cincinnati, Gauff suffered a quarterfinal loss to Jasmine Paolini, marked by 16 double faults and 62 unforced errors. Paolini, ranked ninth in the world, advanced to the semifinals despite an ankle injury, continuing her streak against Gauff with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
