In a landmark decision for Indian football, the Supreme Court has approved a new Constitution for the All India Football Federation (AIFF), paving the way for the apex football body to take sole ownership and operation of the country's top-tier league.
The Indian Super League, previously managed by Football Sports Development Limited, a Reliance Industries subsidiary, will now come under direct AIFF management. This change includes adopting a global-standard promotion and relegation system, marking a significant shift in the league's operation.
The Supreme Court's decision also includes significant changes to leadership roles within the AIFF, such as age and tenure restrictions, ensuring a refreshed executive committee. The AIFF is now racing against a FIFA deadline to adopt these constitutional changes by October 30.
