Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, on Wednesday affirmed the Centre's dedication to uplifting tribal youth via sports, as she attended the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games (KITG) 2026. The event, which spans across Raipur, Jagdalpur, and Sarguja from March 25 to April 3, offers tribal athletes a national stage to exhibit their skills.
In a statement to ANI during Day 8 of the Games, Khadse remarked that the initiative targets increased youth engagement from tribal areas, aiming to enhance sports participation. 'The Khelo India Tribal Games in Raipur seeks active youth involvement in sports, with a focus on tribal youngsters,' she elaborated.
Khadse also pointed out the event's role in spotting fresh talent in remote areas. She mentioned that standout athletes would receive structured training at government-run institutions. 'Our goal is holistic youth development through sports, ensuring promising players receive proper nurturing and promotion,' she said.
Adding a national context, Khadse quoted Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Lok Sabha comments on Naxalism reduction, noting that better security offers new youth development avenues. She highlighted coordinated government strategies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct youth energy towards constructive pursuits like sports.
The KITG debut attracts around 3,800 participants, including athletes, coaches, and officials, competing in nine sports, with 106 gold medals to be won. The event's mascot, 'Mor Veer,' signifies the courage and pride of India's extensive tribal communities. (ANI)
