The Miami Dolphins waived veteran cornerback/returner Marcus Sherels on Saturday. The Dolphins promoted safety Montre Hartage from their practice squad in a corresponding move.

Sherels, 32, played in five games with Miami, primarily on special teams, since being signed in early November. He averaged 19 yards on three kickoff returns and just 3.8 yards on six punt returns. Sherels also forced and recovered a fumble.

Sherels was released by Minnesota in October. He played in 123 games for the Vikings from 2010-19 and returned five punts for touchdowns and averaged 10.5 yards on 237 returns. He also averaged 25.2 yards on 54 kickoff returns. Hartage played in one game for the Dolphins earlier this season and made one tackle in the Week 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. He is an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern.
