Asus Sees Growth Potential in India's Expanding PC Market

Asus officials believe India's low PC penetration presents significant growth opportunities. Despite global challenges, the company sees positive signals in the Indian market and continues to invest heavily. Post-pandemic, interest in purchasing laptops has increased, and Asus is poised to capitalize on this trend.

India's personal computer (PC) market is outpacing global trends, driven by a significant growth opportunity due to low penetration levels, senior Asus officials revealed.

The Taiwanese tech giant has experienced positive growth in India. Arnold Su, Vice President of Asus India Consumer and Gaming PC, noted that PC penetration per household in India is around 10 to 11 percent. 'This implies that 90 percent of Indian households still do not own a PC, presenting a very promising opportunity for us,' Su stated.

Su mentioned that Asus is continuing to invest in India, making its products available across the nation. 'Currently, we have covered around 450 out of 750 districts,' he added.

Peter Chang, General Manager for Asia Pacific System Business Unit at Asus, stated that despite post-COVID challenges, the interest in buying laptops has surged this year. 'We believe the market will soon return to normal,' Chang said, adding that India's PC market is faring better compared to the global scenario.

Market research firm IDC reported a 30 percent decline in PC shipments in India year-on-year for Q1 2023. In contrast, Asus remains optimistic about India's growth potential. Chang emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence for the Taipei-based company and confirmed that Asus applied for India's IT hardware PLI scheme with its partners and has begun manufacturing locally.

Responding to supply chain concerns, Chang mentioned that the situation has returned to normal. Asus continues to assess and expand its investment in India, looking forward to smoother operations.
