On May 20, 2024, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) reported a possible data breach at BSNL. In response, an Inter Ministerial Committee has been formed to audit telecom networks and suggest preventive measures. Access passwords to FTP servers have been changed to ensure security.
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) reported a potential data breach at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on May 20, 2024, as informed to Parliament on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, disclosed that an Inter Ministerial Committee has been formed to audit telecom networks and recommend measures to prevent future data breaches.
Sekhar clarified that the compromised data was similar to that identified by CERT-In on one FTP server, but no breach into the Home Location Register (HLR) of BSNL's network was found, ensuring there was no service disruption.
As a precaution, BSNL has changed access passwords to all similar FTP servers to prevent any potential breaches.
