The government has urged the electronics industry to share production statistics to aid in policy formulation, a Meity official revealed on Friday. Currently, the government relies on estimates provided by industry bodies such as the India Electronics and Cellular Association (ICEA).

'We don't have any kinds of production data. That's very important. When we formulate policy, we need to know how much we are producing and what we are producing,' Meity Scientist G and Group Coordinator Asha Nangia stated at an event organized by CII in collaboration with ICEA.

Data shows significant growth in mobile phone production and exports, with advancements recorded from Rs 18,900 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 3,50,000 crore in 2022-23. Nangia emphasized the importance of developing a resilient supply chain for electronics to safeguard manufacturing ecosystems against challenges like war, pandemic, or geopolitical turbulence.
