Although Ukraine was invited, it expressed doubts about engaging in direct talks with Russia without a collective stance alongside the U.S. and Europe, as articulated by presidential communications adviser Dmytro Lytvyn.

Meanwhile, the Russian embassy in Washington and its UN mission declined to comment on Trump's statement, as anticipation builds for subsequent meetings, including one in Saudi Arabia next week, absent the presence of Trump or Putin.
