U.S. Lifts Export Restrictions on Siemens: A Turnaround in Chip Design Software Access
The U.S. government has lifted export restrictions on chip design software for Germany's Siemens AG, restoring access for customers in China. Previously, companies like Siemens needed licenses to export goods such as design software to China. Both Siemens and U.S. authorities have not commented on the development.
Germany's Siemens AG has been informed by the U.S. government that export restrictions on chip design software for China have been lifted, according to a Bloomberg report.
This development allows Siemens to fully restore access to its software and technology for Chinese customers. Neither Siemens nor the U.S. Department of Commerce immediately responded to Reuters for comments.
In May, the U.S. mandated that Siemens' EDA unit, along with other companies like Cadence and Synopsys, obtain licenses before exporting software and chemicals for semiconductors to China.
