The year 2025 has witnessed a surge in cybercrimes targeting the digital currency world, with thefts surpassing USD 2.17 billion. This figure was reached even before a recent USD 44 million breach at CoinDCX, emphasizing the growing menace in cryptocurrency security.
Chainalysis' mid-year update on crypto crimes highlighted that more has been stolen in 2025 than in any previous year, including the massive USD 1.5 billion hack of ByBit, the largest in crypto history. This hack alone accounts for nearly 69% of all service-related thefts this year.
The report underscored the increasing sophistication of these threats, predominantly from state-sponsored actors. Despite CoinDCX's recent security breach, its founders assured users that their funds remained secure, absorbing the financial impact using company reserves.
