In a landmark venture, Google has pledged to invest USD 15 billion in launching an extensive AI hub in Visakhapatnam, India, alongside the Adani Group. This multi-year investment, from 2026 to 2030, aims to develop the country's most advanced data center network, emphasizing gigawatt-scale operations and clean energy.
The AI hub will be Google's largest outside the United States, involving new fiber-optic cables and energy sources. During the Bharat AI Shakti event, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian highlighted the project as a historic development. The tech giant's CEO, Sundar Pichai, reiterated the strategic significance of this investment in a message shared on social media.
The initiative is expected to catalyze significant economic growth through increased AI and cloud computing adoption across India. Notably, Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman have praised the efforts of Andhra Pradesh's government in facilitating this endeavor, marking a new era for Indian digital infrastructure.
