Broadcasters Challenge Big Tech's Market Dominance in EU
Major broadcasters in Europe have urged the EU to classify tech companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and Samsung as gatekeepers under the Digital Markets Act due to their increasing market power. They emphasize the need for oversight to ensure fair competition in the smart TV and virtual assistant markets.
Major European broadcasters are urging the EU to classify tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Apple, and Samsung as gatekeepers due to their expanding market influence on smart TVs and virtual assistants.
The Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe (ACT), consisting of top broadcasters like Canal+, RTL, and Warner Bros Discovery, is leading this call to action. They argue that the current dominance of these tech companies poses a threat to fair market competition and consumer choice.
While the European Commission assesses this appeal, the broadcasters stress the importance of regulatory oversight under the Digital Markets Act to prevent these tech behemoths from dictating market outcomes unchecked.
