India is establishing itself as a frontrunner in the global AI landscape, ranking amongst the world's top five nations in AI deployment and skill, according to OpenAI's recent 'capability gap findings.'

Despite its advanced AI capabilities, usage remains heavily skewed towards urban centers, with 50% of AI applications concentrated in just ten cities—a disparity over three times more pronounced than in other comparable markets like the US and Germany.

As India seeks to democratize AI access, there is notable engagement in education and health in eastern states and improving access will be crucial for leveraging these technologies across broader demographics, particularly given the nation's youthful and tech-ready population, according to OpenAI's International Managing Director, Oliver Jay.
