As of 7 a.m. on Thursday, a 3.5-km section of the Coastal Road's north-bound carriageway has been opened in Mumbai, significantly cutting down travel time to the suburbs from south Mumbai. This stretch, from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road in Worli, forms part of the broader 10.5-km Mumbai Coastal Road Project, according to civic officials.
The newly opened section will help motorists bypass traffic congestion between Haji Ali and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that the carriageway will be open to vehicles from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the road on Wednesday along with municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and other senior officials, asserting that the Coastal Road project is currently 91% complete. The initiative aims to improve connectivity between south Mumbai and the suburbs, ultimately enhancing the daily commute for many residents.
