The dollar surged broadly on Monday as trades favoring a Donald Trump victory in the U.S. elections intensified following an alleged assassination attempt on the former President. The incident, which left Trump with minor injuries, significantly boosted investor sentiment towards a Trump win, impacting various financial markets.

Trump, 78, was hurt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The event narrowed the odds for a Trump victory come November, with the dollar and U.S. Treasury yields rising consequently. Cryptocurrencies saw a notable jump as well. Vasu Menon from OCBC highlighted that 'sympathy votes' could enhance Trump's chances, compelling more supporters to vote.

Online betting platform PredictIT reported an increase in the likelihood of a Republican win to 66 cents from 60 cents, with the Democrats standing at 38 cents. This suggests Republicans are twice as likely to win the upcoming elections. Vishnu Varathan of Mizuho Bank noted the potential for a stronger USD amid worsening positions for other major currencies.
