Haryana Expands CCTV Surveillance to Boost Road Safety

The Haryana government is set to expand its CCTV-based City Surveillance System to all remaining districts to enhance road safety. Currently operational in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Karnal, the project has received Rs 19 crore for equipment and maintenance. Funds have been allocated to various departments for road safety initiatives.

The Haryana government is making a pivotal move to improve road safety state-wide by extending the CCTV-based City Surveillance System to the remaining 19 districts, Chief Secretary T V S N Prasad announced on Wednesday.

At present, this system is functional in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Karnal. Prasad disclosed this while leading a meeting of the Fund Management Committee, organized under the Haryana Road Safety Fund Rules, 2018.

An amount of Rs 19 crore has been sanctioned for the acquisition of cameras, servers, and software, along with their installation and maintenance, according to an official statement.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that the state government has designated funds for road safety initiatives.

The Secondary Education Department will get Rs 1.06 crore to foster road safety awareness among students through poster competitions and teacher training, while the Transport Department has been granted Rs 30 lakh for procuring e-challan machines.

The chief secretary also mentioned that District Road Safety Committees will receive Rs 11.46 crore to effectively implement road safety measures.

These financial allocations will bolster various critical safety initiatives, he stated.
