Sikkim Secures New Development Boost from Union Budget

The Union Budget promises significant advancements for Sikkim, particularly targeting working women through hostels and childcare facilities. Rural development, organic farming, infrastructural improvements, and tribal welfare initiatives are major focus areas. The budget also plans the expansion of banking services with new branches of Indian Post Payments Banks across the northeastern states.

The BJP announced Saturday that Sikkim stands to gain considerable advantages from the Union Budget, which allocates funds for essential facilities like hostels and childcare services to support working women.

BJP national spokesperson Sasmit Patra noted that 58.4 percent of the workforce in Sikkim are women, the highest in the nation. Patra emphasized the central government's commitment to infrastructure enhancements and welfare initiatives aimed at fulfilling local aspirations.

Rural development takes center stage with a Rs 3 lakh crore allocation under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), aimed at improving Sikkim's road network, particularly in flood-hit regions. Additionally, Sikkim's leadership in organic farming will be bolstered with climate-resilient crop techniques over the next two years.

The state will also benefit from the PM Awas Yojana and the establishment of 100 new branches of Indian Post Payments Banks across the northeastern states. Special funds under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Jatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan will ensure the saturation of benefits in tribal villages, addressing the needs of the 35-40 percent tribal population in Sikkim.
