Gambia is in discussions with India to harness its mining expertise, particularly in the search for critical minerals, which are essential for economic growth and national security. Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Nani Juwara, disclosed this during the CII India Africa Business Conclave, stating ongoing talks with the Indian ambassador to Gambia.

Critical minerals are vital for sectors such as defence, agriculture, energy, and pharmaceuticals. Minister Juwara, who recently assumed office, expressed optimism about the potential collaboration. "We have already initiated discussions with the Indian ambassador when he made a courtesy call after my appointment," he said.

The Gambia seeks India's support due to its extensive experience in the mining sector. "Indian companies can aid our geological department in conducting thorough investigations to identify undiscovered critical minerals," Juwara noted. He highlighted that these minerals would mutually benefit both countries. Moreover, Gambia is exploring its petroleum potential, inspired by neighboring Senegal's recent oil discoveries.
