India has announced an extension of duty-free imports for Urad beans until March 31, 2026, according to a government directive, aiming to stabilize the domestic market. Initially, the policy was set to conclude by the end of March, highlighting this year's regulatory extension.

Myanmar remains the leading exporter of Urad beans to India, with the trade amounting to USD 601.12 million from April to November. India's substantial Urad imports underscore its status as both the largest producer and consumer of this essential legume.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade specified that USD 549 million worth of Urad was imported from Myanmar. India also secures Urad from Singapore, Thailand, and Brazil. Bilateral trade between India and Myanmar grew to USD 1.74 billion in the last fiscal year, indicating a trade surplus favoring Myanmar.
