The Indian government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform the nation's textile sector through the launch of PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) parks. Each park is expected to create around 300,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, covering all facets of the textile value chain, including spinning, weaving, processing, garment, and accessory manufacturing, according to Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, in a statement to Lok Sabha.
With a financial commitment of Rs 4,445 crore set for the period from 2021 to 2028, the government has pinpointed seven locations for these PM MITRA parks. The chosen sites span Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, aiming to establish a modern and integrated industrial infrastructure.
Minister Singh elaborated on the 5F vision encapsulated in the PM MITRA initiative, which ranges from 'Farm to Fibre' to 'Fashion to Foreign'. Complementing this, the government is running various schemes to promote the textile sector across India. These include the Production Linked Incentive Scheme and the National Technical Textiles Mission, among others, aimed at increasing manufacturing scale and market competitiveness.
