Vietnam Approves Starlink's Satellite Internet Trial
Vietnam is permitting SpaceX to test its Starlink satellite internet through 2030. Foreign ownership is unrestricted, and Starlink can operate fixed and mobile services, even during flights. Analysts view this move as a means to mitigate potential U.S. tariffs. The service's trial is capped at 600,000 subscribers.
Vietnam's government announced on Wednesday its decision to permit SpaceX to conduct a trial launch of its Starlink satellite internet service within the country.
The government stated there are no limitations on foreign ownership of the service, with the trial period extending until the end of 2030. Analysts interpret this approval as a strategic measure by Vietnam to potentially avoid U.S. tariffs. However, it remains unclear if SpaceX has submitted a license application to operate in Vietnam.
Currently operational in over 120 global markets, Starlink is authorized to offer both fixed and mobile service plans throughout Vietnam, including on flights. The government has capped the subscriber limit at 600,000 for the duration of the trial.
