In a recent press conference, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commended the newly announced GST reforms by the central government, dubbing them a 'Diwali gift' from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The reforms, which come into effect on September 22, aim to simplify the taxation structure with just two main tax slabs of five and 18 per cent. According to Adityanath, this will ease the tax burden on the common man, farmers, and various sectors, fueling economic growth.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these changes are expected to inject an additional Rs 2 lakh crore into the economy. Essential items will now carry zero per cent GST, and the reduced rate on agricultural equipment should bolster the farm economy. Moreover, health insurance, stationery, and notebooks will become more affordable, benefiting households and students.
