The Ministry of Railways has greenlit a significant project to construct a fourth line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu, valued at Rs 757.18 crore, to strengthen connectivity in Tamil Nadu. This development, the Southern Railway disclosed, is pivotal to alleviating congestion and optimizing operations.
Currently a three-line section catering to suburban and long-distance trains, the Tambaram-Chengalpattu stretch is overburdened, affecting punctuality and expansion. The new line promises smoother suburban operations, encouraging a transition from road to rail.
The approved project is forecasted to attract additional freight traffic worth Rs 157 crore annually. Serving emerging industrial areas and future travel demand, the line notably highlights Tamil Nadu's transport infrastructure growth, reinforcing connectivity and economic benefit.
