The NDA government, under Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced in the Rajya Sabha a substantial increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. The government has doubled the previous MSP rates and quadrupled procurement efforts, setting a stark contrast against the former UPA administration's policies.

Chouhan highlighted that while the former UPA government rejected the 50 per cent hike recommended by the Swaminathan Commission, the Modi government accepted these recommendations in 2019, improving farmers' welfare by ensuring better prices at lower production costs.

Despite this, opposition politicians such as Congress MP Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik raised concerns over farmers' issues, including suicides and debts, and unresolved grievances about unpaid MSP rates and demands for broader crop coverage under the scheme.
