In a move to commemorate the centenary of the Gang Canal, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has unveiled ambitious irrigation projects totaling Rs 1,717 crore. Referring to the canal as a key part of Maharaja Ganga Singh's vision, Sharma outlined several strategic projects aimed at transforming the region's agriculture.
Addressing the Gang Canal centenary celebrations in Sri Ganganagar's Sadhuwali, Sharma highlighted the government's dedication to farmer-centric policies. He announced a Rs 15 per quintal increase in the minimum support price for sugarcane and detailed plans for major irrigation infrastructure projects designed to sustain agricultural growth.
With multiple initiatives underway, the state intends to revitalize its canal systems by investing nearly Rs 5,000 crore over two years. This includes a Rs 3,400 crore modernization of the IGNP canal and ongoing efforts under the PM Kisan scheme, which has transferred substantial funds to farmers across Rajasthan.
