Tragic statistics from East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand reveal that 176 individuals have lost their lives in 273 road accidents this year. Alarmingly, over 100 of these fatalities have been attributed to violations of traffic rules, including the neglect of helmets, seat belts, speeding, and driving on the wrong side.
Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi addressed these pressing concerns in a meeting with senior officials. He emphasized the urgent need for increased awareness about road safety and compliance with traffic laws to curb this deadly trend.
Amid preparations for the New Year celebrations, Satyarthi instructed officials to conduct thorough vehicle checks and breathalyser tests at critical locations to dissuade drunken driving. Recognizing community efforts, Dharni Das of Jadugora was honored with a citation and a cash reward for assisting a road accident victim during the crucial 'golden hour.'
