Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal engaged in discussions with Tatsuo Yasunaga, Chairman of the Japan-India Business Cooperation Committee (JIBCC), to explore avenues for strengthening economic ties between India and Japan. Goyal announced the productive nature of their discussions on social media, emphasizing opportunities in trade and innovation.
India and Japan have developed robust trade relations, with bilateral trade reaching USD 25.17 billion during FY25. Exports from Japan to India amounted to USD 18.92 billion, while India's exports to Japan were valued at USD 6.25 billion. Significant commodities include engineering goods, chemicals, and electronic products.
The talks coincide with continued high-level political relations, highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Japan for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. The summit underscored the depth of mutual trust and highlighted the expanded partnership across sectors like defence, commerce, and technology over the past decade.
