India's unemployment rate hit a historic low of 4.7% in November 2025, a notable decrease from 5.2% the previous month, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. This decline marks the lowest level since April 2025, signaling robust improvements in the nation's labour market conditions.
The ministry highlighted that rural unemployment dropped to a new low of 3.9%, while urban unemployment reduced to 6.5%, indicating upward trends in both regions. Rural areas experienced the most significant improvements, with both male and female unemployment rates reaching their lowest levels.
Labour force participation saw an increase to 55.8%, primarily driven by rural advances, while the Worker Population Ratio also rose to 53.2%. These positive developments reflect a broad-based recovery, supported by rising female employment and gains in rural workforce participation.
