The Indian Railways' momentum in project execution is evident as it utilized 98% of its budget for FY26, paving the way for rail dominance over air travel in forthcoming corridors, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated. Within the last fiscal year, significant strides were made in terms of network electrification and expansion.

Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the electrification of 49,000 kilometers of tracks and the addition of 36,000 kilometers of new lines. These efforts align with projects aimed at reducing travel times, such as new routes from Mumbai to Pune and Hyderabad to Bengaluru, thus prompting a shift from air travel to rail.

With freight operations playing a pivotal role, coal supply to power plants is no longer an issue, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) completion up to JNPT Port further boosts efficiency. Notably, India's export of train propulsion systems underscores the country's railway advancements.
