Crackdown on tobacco in US: Walgreens raises age limit after FDA's push

Walgreens is set to implement new Tobacco 21 Policy to further prevent youth access to tobacco products. As per the policy, Customers to be at least 21 years old to purchase tobacco products from its stores.

Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc said that the policy will be effective on September 1.

The move comes amid an increased crackdown by US regulator US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA recently sent letters to Walmart Inc, Kroger Co and 10 other convenience store chains for selling tobacco products to minors. In the letters, dated April 5, the FDA asked the companies to submit a plan of action within 30 days, describing how they will address and mitigate illegal sales to minors.
