Amidst escalating tensions, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra has issued a stern warning to the ruling Congress government, cautioning of imminent large-scale protests. This comes in response to the administration’s controversial decision to shut down nine state-run universities, a move Vijayendra termed as 'unscientific and foolish.'

The closures are based on financial recommendations from a cabinet sub-committee led by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. However, Vijayendra argues that financial constraints should not dictate the destiny of institutions crucial for nurturing youth and shaping academic futures.

The BJP, with support from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), vows to oppose these plans. Criticism has also poured in from other BJP leaders, who question whether universities should be treated merely as business centers. Protests are planned as the BJP rallies public support to confront this directive.
